Presidential candidate - Mohammed Antar
Hello valuable MCGSS members, My name is Mohammed Antar. I am a Ph.D. candidate at the Department of Plant Science (Mac Campus) and running for president position at MCGSS. I obtained my BSc. in Plant Production/Agriculture from Salahaddin University-Erbil (SU), Iraq, in 2008. Three years later, I joined the University of Manchester for my MSc in Plant Science, where I completed my degree with Distinction in 2013. Before joining McGill in Fall 2017, I worked as Researcher and Assistant Lecturer at my home university (SU) and was involved in several academic, social, and cultural events. After joining McGill, I have engaged in several activities and always tried to be close to student led associations and societies. My official involvement at Mac Campus started in Summer 2019 when I joined Macdonald Campus Students’ Society (MCGSS) as a graduate students’ representative at the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. In the past two years/terms, I have involved in almost all events organized by MCGSS and collaborated with AGSEM (The Association of Graduate Students Employed at McGill), and helped with organizing Fall and Winter Orientations and finally represented Mac Graduate Students at various committees at the faculty level, particularly in Faculty Academic Program Committee, Faculty Planning Committee for EDI, Graduate Studies Committee and Macdonald Research Committee. For the upcoming term, I plan for the presidency to serve this society and meet MCGSS goals, including a better representation of MCGSS in faculty meetings, organizing more events, encouraging departmental events and involving more/diverse graduate students in the society. Also, to create stronger links between MCGSS and Office of Graduate Studies, MCGSS-MCSSPGSS, MCGSS-AGSEM/AMUSE/AMURE and MCGSS with active clubs at Mac campus. Most importantly, I will do my best to create a safe and trustful environment for graduate students to discuss their concerns, clarify available resources and link them to designated authorities to solve their problems. As a team, we could do many more things to keep MCGSS a valuable source for our graduate students. Therefore, please feel free to contact me at ([email protected]) for any ideas and suggestions that make MCGSS more effective. I look forward to seeing your support for another great year! All the best, Mohammed Antar |

candidate for Treasurer - Diksha Bhola
My Name is Diksha Bhola, and I am a PhD student in the department of plant Science at the MacDonald campus. I am running for the position of treasurer of Macdonald Campus Graduate Students Society (MCGSS) and incredibly thrilled to receive an opportunity to yet again be a part of MCGSS. Being treasurer for MCGSS in the previous term, I am well aware of the duties pertaining to the post and how things are done. My experience in the previous term has given me valuable insights that will be helpful to me in future. As a treasurer my aim will be to effectively and efficiently utilize the funds available to the society. Being a representative of the student body, I will ensure that maximum resources are available to the students. One of my major projects will be structuring and delivering travel grants in coordination with other executive members. I also plan on organizing various events for graduate students. With the ongoing pandemic situation, it is of utmost importance to be connected to each other. I believe the events organized by the society will provide a platform for students to feel connected. You can count on me to listen to your concerns and do the needful to be helpful to you.
